F/I Tuning

Any changes made to either the intake or exhaust path of a motorcycle (such as installing an aftermarket exhaust system) require the fuel map to be adjusted to compensate for changes. There are several ways to accomplish this depending on the price you are willing to pay:

  • Low - Connect a temporary box to adjust the Stock ECU fuel map (Teka, Yosh box)
  • Moderate - Connect a permanent box with a new fuel map (PC-3, EMS, TFI)
  • High - Install a custom ECU (BPD)

Dynojet Power Commander: This unit attaches to the ECU and allows you to change both the fuel and ignition maps, depending on model. These units come with a base map for each model bike but to obtain the best results a custom map created at your local dyno facility is a must (some people do try/trade maps on the internet).

FactoryPro Teka: Unit connected during fuel adjustments and then removed. In realtime, you are able to adjust each individual cylinder's idle richer or leaner, AS the bike is running! You can: Rough adjust with the "All Cyls", then fine tune with the Cyl1, Cyl2, Cyl3 or Cyl4 selection. Makes it super easy to adjust idle mixture - allows you to eliminate the hunting, loping idle caused by improper idle mixture settings.

Teka has 5 discrete throttle position RUN settings:
You can adjust and programs fuel delivery in 5 different ranges -
1. up to 10% throttle - to help tune out that annoying off-idle hiccup.
2. 11% to 25% throttle
3. 26% to 50% throttle
4. 51% to 75% throttle
5. 76% to 100% throttle

Techlusion TFI: Unit connected with crimp on connectors to the injector wiriung. This unit inly has low-med-high adjustments. You can only add fuel (not remove) at each level.

Mark Dobeck (founder of DJ & Techlusion) has got a new tool out on the market. It's a portable sniffer that you can use for obtaining a/f readings.
