Instructions for JSD-3V

Background

Suzuki manufactures motorcycles with a different ignition map for each gear. In the lower gears, the ignition timing is retarded. The JSD sends a fixed signal to the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) which eliminates the retardation. This enables a more responsive throttle and faster acceleration in the lower gears.

1) At the front end of the gas tank, remove the two plastic fasteners on the center piece that holds the cowl together. Use a small object to push down in the center of the fastener and then remove the center pin.

2) Remove the two Allen fasteners that attach the cowl to the center piece.

3) Remove the six Allen fasteners (three on each side of the bike).

4) Remove the black panels by popping them away from the frame.

5) Remove the 12mm bolt that attaches the rear of the tank to the frame. Prop up the rear of the tank with a block of wood.

6) Locate the Gear Position Sensor (GPS) connector (white, three-pin, triangular connectors with black, blue and pink wires). It is located on the right side near the frame rail, just behind the rear cylinder exhaust.

7) Pull apart the GPS connectors.

8) Connect the JSD male to the GPS female connector. Connect the JSD female to the GPS male connector
